Child Protection in Vietnam

Strengthening the child protection system in Ho Chi Minh City

Planète Enfants & Développement runs child protection programs in Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Nepal, and Vietnam. The Air Liquide Foundation supports the association with its project to strengthen the child protection system in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Child protection in Vietnam

In Vietnam, approximately four million underprivileged children survive in extremely unsafe conditions and are subject to exploitation and abuse. The country has few child protection services and there are not enough social workers to take care of all children in need. To cope with this situation, the Governmental Department of Social Affairs has decided to set up a child protection program that will support the creation of 250 awareness and prevention centers in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Family Support program

Since 2015, Planète Enfants & Développement has run a Family Support program in partnership with local authorities. This program helps underprivileged families and provides appropriate training to child protection social workers. Today, the association works to strengthen its actions by:

  • Adding new training modules for social workers,
  • Launching a communications campaign to increase the visibility of the awareness and prevention centers,

  • Providing furniture and computer equipment for several awareness and prevention centers.
