3aMIE - France

Promoting the integration of young isolated migrants

In Grenoble, France, the 3aMIE association offers new perspectives to young isolated migrants. A former school has been refurbished to become a learning and integration space. 3aMIE offers a range of training courses and a secure environment, to help young migrants take charge of their future through education and encounters.

Training and Ambition

The 3aMIE association is a school for isolated young migrants deprived of access to education. It offers full-time training courses combining general education with preparation for two vocational diplomas: the CAP Production et Services en Restauration and the CAP Intervention en Maintenance Technique des Bâtiments. For the latter, young people benefit from practical workshop training in areas such as plumbing, painting and electricity, to prepare them to sit the exam on their own. All courses (general and vocational) are supervised by volunteers and coordinated by three salaried employees in the teaching department.

Building an Integrated, Welcoming, Secure and Recognized School

The 3aMIE association's development project revolves around three major axes to offer better support:

- create a unified school: a single location, stronger links between courses, a renewed pedagogy to support students who join the school throughout the year.
- build a welcoming and reassuring school: spacious premises in a serene setting, support for students right through to school enrolment, development of partnerships with associations and structures in the fields of health, accommodation and culture .
- make 3aMIE a recognized school: a real place in the institutional landscape of education, diversification of career paths.

  • 50 students at the 3aMIE school

  • 140 students supported by the 3aMIE association throughout the year

As the monitoring manager,, I'm the Foundation's local contact, and I was able to meet with the team, which presented me with the school's development and renovation plans, and I also spoke with some of the students.. As well as confirming that the project is in line with the Foundation's values, this also helps to create links with Air Liquide employees by identifying missions in which they could get involved.

Towards a new school

The "3aMIE vers une nouvelle école" (3aMIE towards a new school) project aims to welcome more young, isolated migrant pupils, while at the same time improving pupil reception. The availability of the premises of a former nursery school to be renovated was a major opportunity for the project to be carried out.

What the Air Liquide Foundation does

The Foundation's funding was essential for the necessary refurbishment of the premises to accommodate more beneficiaries. Two projects were completed thanks to this support: the renovation of the kindergarten toilets into toilets suitable for teenagers and adults, and the construction of a lean-to for the workshop part of the building vocational training, for which some 3aMIE students are prepared.

The Foundation's support has also made it possible to modernize computer equipment and contribute to the salaries of two employees, thus ensuring the continuity and quality of the support offered to young people.

Air Liquide Employee Involvement

For the Air Liquide Foundation, employee involvement is an essential pillar of the project. The Foundation therefore also coordinates employee involvement in the project.

Employees can take part in a number of missions, from co-teaching for the CAPs (painting, tiling, plumbing and drywall) to training in "gestures and postures", and coaching in the search for internships. In addition, they can contribute to the upkeep of the green spaces in the 3aMIE courtyard and carry out DIY work and repairs on the school site.

These concrete actions enable employees to share their skills and contribute directly to the integration and professional training of young people supported by 3aMIE. For example, on March 13, we organized a presentation of our professions, providing a tangible opportunity for knowledge-sharing.
