Facility for people with mental disabilities in France

Refurbishment of three specially adapted common areas

With the support from the Air Liquide Foundation, Perce-Neige is refurbishing common areas in one of its group homes for people with disabilities.

Perce Neige Home in Saint-Laurent-sur-Gorre

Perce Neige is an association that manages specialized institutions for individuals with one or more mental/physical disabilities, aged 40 and over. The Perce-Neige Home in Saint Laurent-sur-Gorre, France is a residential care home that opened its doors in 2010. It provides housing, social support, cultural activities and medical care for around thirty people.

Communal areas to promote interaction among residents

In order to promote social integration and bonding among its residents, the Perce-Neige Home in Saint-Laurent-sur-Gorre is organized in “living units”, of no more than five or six people each. Each “living unit” includes a kitchen and a room where residents can relax and socialize. These areas had become outdated and need to be remodeled to be more welcoming and cheerful for its residents.

The Air Liquide Foundation's involvement

The Air Liquide Foundation supported the refurbishment of three of these common areas by providing funds for new furniture (including sofas and armchairs) that is specially adapted to meet the residents' needs. The project also has an educational component by getting the residents involved in choosing the furniture, deciding where to place it and picking out new decorations.
