Support for an assistance and training program for women in very precarious situations in Argentina

The Air Liquide Foundation is supporting the Capilla Niño Dios association in its assistance and training program for women in very precarious situations in Villa de Mayo, a suburb of Buenos Aires in Argentina. It is financing the renovation of the association’s premises and the purchase of pedagogic materials and equipment.

Run by a team of women, the goal of the Capilla Niño Dios association is to help women who are in very precarious social situation in Villa de Mayo, a disadvantaged suburb of Buenos Aires.

Mothers of families that are often very large, victims of domestic violence and sometimes even homeless, these women are left to their own devices. The association regularly meets these women to give them back confidence and to enhance their role in society. It provides them with psychological and moral support and gives literacy and introductory craft courses. The objective is to develop their self-esteem while raising their awareness on the importance of the woman’s role in the family and community.

To achieve this goal, the association offers several services such as a psychology clinic with a professional who answers the women’s personal questions each week, individual interviews, group sessions and lectures and courses on many subjects. In addition, the association proposes introductory courses in local crafts such as weaving and painting. These workshops allow these women to acquire know-how that they can turn to their advantage afterward by creating an economic micro-activity.

With the goal of helping continue the Capilla Niño Dios association’s actions for these women and to support others, in 2011, the Air Liquide Foundation financed the renovation of the association’s premises and the purchase of pedagogic materials and equipment used in the training courses.
