With a population that has little access to primary healthcare, education and even drinking water, Burkina Faso is one of the poorest countries in the world. But the association chose the Zorgho commune to target its action by building schools and dispensaries. Teachers and medical personnel have been appointed to work there and are paid by the government, while the villagers participate in the daily management of the schools and dispensaries through committees.
The construction of dispensaries is always a success because they have a staff of about 1,000 people and can offer training in basic hygiene, vaccinate toddlers, deliver newborns in a medical setting and administer first aid.
Today, the dispensary of the village of Zinado requires the installation of a water and electricity distribution system because until now, all its night-time medical procedures have been carried out by candlelight! Air Liquide is financing this installation so that the medical personnel will have decent working conditions and the patients a dignified welcome.
A well will be drilled near the dispensary and a water tower built. An outside water supply point will be installed so that the villagers can to draw water. They will be able to use it in exchange for a contribution to the well. This contribution will allow the dispensary's facilities to be maintained and will provide it with a source of revenue for purchasing medications and offering free care.
