Installation of an Aeolian well and a water tower in the village of Djiné in Mali

The Air Liquide Foundation is financing the installation of an Aeolian well and a water tower in the village of Djiné in Mali.

ASDJIMA - logoThe “AS.DJI.MA Christophe Turquois” association was created through the determination of four French tradesmen who decided to help the inhabitants of Djiné. During their stay in this small Mali village located near Bamako, they were struck by the poverty of the villagers and the precariousness of their facilities. Djiné has no shortage of water in its subsoil, but the villagers could not access it. Moreover, the government had built a medical center for the village and had drilled down to the water level. But it was up to the villagers to find a way to pump the water to the surface.

When they returned to France, the association’s founders and a few volunteers devoted themselves to the construction of an Aeolian well and a water tower for Djiné. Transported by boat then installed by these volunteers, the Aeolian well has been supplying water to the village’s dispensary since spring 2010. Taking advantage of being in the village, they also built a water distribution network that went as far as the medical center.

The dispensary and maternity clinic of Djiné now have access to running water. The villagers’ living and sanitary conditions have considerably been improved as a result.

The Air Liquide Foundation supported this project by financing the equipment need to build and install the well.
