The Air Liquide Foundation is financing the development of an underwater sound/video duplex to raise school children and students' awareness on the protection of the marine environment on the Côtes d'Armor in France.
The Centre Activités Plongée (CAP – Deep-sea Diving Activity Center) of Trébeuren has set an objective of developing and promoting knowledge of the underwater and nautical world from the sports, pedagogic and scientific viewpoint… and has been doing so since 1967! It promotes respect for laws and regulations on the conservation underwater fauna, flora and other riches.
The marine environment is singularly influenced by human activity and the pollution that comes from it. Black tides are frequently mentioned, but the total quantity of pollutants that results from them is insignificant compared to the pollution caused by industrial discharges, pesticides and fertilizers and domestic wastewater!
The CAP wants to have school children and students discover the seabed and underwater life, raise their awareness on their preservation and encourage accountability vis-à-vis the environment.
The project? Install a sound and video duplex between the seabed and the deck of a boat for guided excursions at sea. A diver with a camera films the seabed, transmits the images directly to screens on the boat's deck while a commentator explains what is being seen and heard.
Why all this equipment? So that the participants can became aware of the importance of the stakes of more responsible conduct and that the youngest among them can develop "eco-citizen" behaviors.
