The Air Liquide Foundation is working with Entrepreneurs du Monde to encourage individual economic initiatives in rural populations.
Entrepreneurs du Monde fights against poverty and for a sustainable improvement in living conditions in households facing extreme precariousness. The method? Favoring their economic and social development and encouraging entrepreneurship by offering them training programs and financial services (loans, savings plans). The association works in nine countries (Haiti, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Benin, India, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines) and has helped over 60,000 micro-entrepreneurs to sustain their activity.
In 2007, Entrepreneurs du Monde started working in northwestern Vietnam and created the Chi Em (“Sisters” in Vietnamese) program. This program’s success as well as the establishment of relations of trust with the local authorities, allowed the association to obtain an authorization to set up its activities in the Muong Hang district.
The Air Liquide Foundation is working with Entrepreneurs du Monde to launch a new micro-credit offering in the Muong Hang district in northwestern Vietnam. The new office creatsed for this purpose will make it possible to help 7,500 families. The borrowers, eager to start cattle-raising or market gardening activities, will be chosen according to their degree of precariousness and the nature of their project. As for training programs, they will be linked to the granting of credit.
