For the second time, the Air Liquide Foundation is contributing support to the association Afoulki in its rural school renovation program in Essaouira province.
Afoulki France and Afoulki Maroc have been fighting for the last six years against illiteracy and for the enrollment of children in rural areas of Morocco, in Essaouira province. For the last two years, the associations have been particularly focused on the revamping of obsolete infrastructures. Through the modernization of schools and the renovation of electrical and sanitary installations, Afoulki aims at improving comfort in schools to retain students and especially girls with the goal of increasing enrollment in rural zones.
The Afoulki association renovated, in 2009-2010, about 10 schools in Essaouira province. It plans to continue this dynamic by rehabilitating eight more schools in 2011 in the same region. The objective of this project is to encourage parents to send their children to school by offering better teaching and learning conditions.
The Air Liquide Foundation is taking part in this project, which will permit, in the long term, easier access to school and will fight against dropping out. In 2011, it is financing the renovation of three new schools.
