Training disadvantaged young people in fabricating and preserving food in Orissa State in India

The Air Liquide Foundation supports the creation of a technical training in food distribution and preservation fields intended to 300 young people in India.

KISS LogoSince 1993, the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) has been fighting hunger and militating for the eradication of poverty through training. KISS offers academic and professional training free of charge to disadvantaged young people in rural Indian communities. As of this date, the institution has admitted over 12,000 young people from Orissa State and neighboring regions.

Food distribution and preservation is a strategic challenge in India. KISS therefore developed a technical training program specialized in this sector. To convince parents in rural communities to enroll their children in school, KISS imagined offering these youngsters technical and vocational training while permitting them to follow a traditional curriculum. The goal was to develop their employability when they entered the job market.

This training program is currently open to 40 students, but the institution decided to develop this training so that over 300 young people could take advantage of it. The Air Liquide Foundation is supporting the project by equipping the training workshop (materials and accessories to fabricate and preserve foodstuffs) and remunerating the trainers.
