Construction of a women’s training and housing center in Burkina Faso

The Air Liquide Foundation is working with the HILAP association to build a training and housing center for women in Pama in Burkina Faso.

HILAP (Humanitarianism Here and There, Helping and Sharing), a student association at the Special School of Public Works in Building and Industry of Paris (ESTP), has been raising student awareness on humanitarian issues in France and abroad, notably in Burkina Faso, since 2004.

HILAP is working jointly with a Burkina Faso association, ADCV (Association for the Development of Village Communities), which finds the projects, coordinates them and helps carry them out in the field.

In June 2009, 15 student volunteers from the ESTP went to Pama, in southeast Burkina Faso, to build a training and housing center there for women, with the support of the Air Liquide Foundation. The training center will initially be used as a relay for the World Food Program in the framework of the fight against malnutrition. It will then be dedicated to training women in Pama. Literacy training, professional training and the creation of micro-credits will be the subjects treated by this new center.

This project will contribute to the education program that Burkina Faso launched in 2002 aiming at developing literacy in this country.

A word from the sponsor:
Falilou Dioume, former General Manager of Air Liquide in Burkina Faso, current Vice President of Air Liquide in Mali

“My exchanges with different personalities in the city of Pama have revealed the association’s excellent reputation on the local level. Their involvement with the local population, their transparency and capacity to successfully carry out their programs demonstrates their commitment. The program’s objectives are praiseworthy and meet the real needs of the populations they are intended for.”
