Air Liquide provides its support for the construction of new premises for the Central Africa Higher Institute of Technology (IST-AC).
In 2002, the Central Africa Higher Institute of Technology (IST-AC) opened its doors in the framework of the ICAM Group (French engineering school). In Pointe-Noire in the Congo and Douala in Cameroon, the school admits about 300 students, 25% of whom are young women, every year, training them for careers as technicians or engineers. The purpose of this project is to offer African students the opportunity to develop their skills in Africa so that they can find employment in the region.
The IST-AC students can participate in work-study internships and apprenticeship programs working in many local companies including Air Liquide. Out of the 27 engineers who graduated in 2007, two are taking additional coursework in Europe and 25 found their first job, about half in the company where they did their apprenticeship.
Given the Institute’s success and in order to continue its development, the Air Liquide Foundation is financially contributing to the construction of 150 m2 of additional premises in Pointe-Noire. This enlargement of the IST-AC campus will help improve the students’ living and study conditions.
